COVID-19 Vaccine and Immunisation Programme

4 February 2021

From Sunday 26 September 2022 the Government no longer requires nurses to follow the mandatory vaccination requirements. The Nursing Council is maintaining this page as a historical record only. Please note that an individual employer might still have vaccination requirements and is permitted to ask about your vaccination status. If you are not vaccinated we recommend that you discuss this with any potential employers.

All registered nurses with an APC who aren't already authorised could complete the Provisional Vaccinator Foundation Course.

To administer any COVID-19 vaccine, all qualified/authorised and provisional vaccinators will need to produce evidence that they have completed the online COVID-19 specific education course available shortly. The course will be announced via
https://www.immune.org.nz/covid-19-vaccinator-information and newsletter when that course will be available. If you are a vaccinator and do not currently subscribe to our email list, please do so by clicking this link.

It is expected that a surge workforce for the safe administration of the COVID-19 vaccines will be operational by the second half of this year. If you are interested in being a part of a vaccinator workforce, we encourage you to register your interest via the Hands up to join our vaccination teams database.  This will allow you to be linked with employers in your area.

If you do not hold a current APC but would like to register your interest with the Ministry of Health about being on their surge workforce database you can also apply on the link above. We would encourage you to be linked in with potential employers prior to applying to renew your APC.
